MORGANTOWN, WV // June 17, 2022 – Rank One Computing (ROC), the most trusted provider of facial, object, and text recognition algorithms to U.S. military, law enforcement, and commercial organizations, today announced the opening of a new West Virginia office, located within the Vantage Ventures space at West Virginia University.

ROC will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 24, to formally open the West Virginia office. Speakers will include West Virginia elected officials, Vantage Ventures Executive Director Sarah Biller and Rank One CEO Scott Swann.

“As a West Virginia native, it’s been a lifelong goal of mine to grow a vibrant technology sector in the state,” said Swann.  My long-time friends at Vantage Ventures share that goal which made for an easy decision to open our newest office with them in Morgantown. We’re thrilled to be part of West Virginia’s transformation into a tech start-up state.”

Known for its high performing computer vision algorithms, a critical element of biometric security, ROC will focus its growing development of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) technologies in the West Virginia office. WV natives Jason Hicks and Russ Guzek will lead ROC’s charge to attract and retain top-tiered technical talent.  ROC has initial plans to hire a team of 10 technology professionals in West Virginia, playing a key role in the state’s efforts to keep bright young minds and future entrepreneurs at home.

“Rank One’s decision to open a new office here is emblematic of our commitment to bringing impactful technology and entrepreneurs to West Virginia,” said Sarah Biller, executive director of Vantage Ventures. “Increasing our state’s activity in cybersecurity has been a goal of ours since day one at Vantage. I’m beyond pleased to welcome Scott back home to the Mountain State.”

Rank One is the latest of a growing number of technology companies finding a home in West Virginia with the support of Vantage Ventures and technology leaders, investors, and financial institutions from the state.
